Witnesses say 36-year-old Charles Waynick was “holding his baby in front of him as if he were going to drop the child, while looking up to the sky with this eyes closed, and making weird noises” earlier this month and called police. During his arrest, he asked if he could kiss his child. He was allowed to do so, and stated: “Daddy needs to get help”.
Metro Nashville Police responded to a 911 call on August 6th and located the man who they also observed still making the “weird noises” while holding his child. An officer was afraid he was about to drop the baby. He was near a maroon SUV which had several doors open, and the officer noted Waynick appeared to “not be normal”.

Waynick initially told offers he wasn’t on drugs, and only took Oxycodone that was prescribed to him. Inside the vehicle, officers located the prescription bottle, which was filled one week prior and was missing ~100 pills. On his person, a search revealed 1.5 grams of heroin inside a dollar bill, a half-gram of cocaine, and a crack pipe.
As he was in the back of the patrol car he asked to kiss his child, which he did while stating “Daddy needs to get help”. Charles Waynick, 36, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail at 4:27 p.m. on 08/06, charged with child endangerment, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of drug possession. He is free on a $5,000 cash bond.
