18-year-old Tynia Givans was booked into the Metro Nashville jail this week, charged with the domestic assault of her intimate partner, and father of her child, James Coleman. Police interviewed multiple witnesses, including Shemeka Eddie, Walter Welch, and Anniqua Steele. In the end, it was determined that the couple was in an argument on 14th Ave N inside a car. James eventually exited the vehicle, and his mother, Shemeka, agreed to drive Tynia home. As he exited the car, Tynia is accused of grabbing his hair while yelling at him and attempting to assault him, however, his mother came between them and intervened.
At the time of her arrest, Givans was also booked on an outstanding citation for theft, from a November 2021 incident in which she was found to be fleeing the Opry Mills Nike store with $902 worth of merchandise she had just boosted. She made it to the parking lot and hid behind a car before being issued a theft citation at the time, for which she never self-booked on. She was given a $500 bond on each charge and posted bail the following day.

| On 12/18/21 at approximately 19:23 officers were dispatched to 1532 14th Ave N in response to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers separated the victim (James Coleman) and the defendant (Tyniya Givans). Also present were multiple witnesses (Shemeka Eddie, Walter Welch, Anniqua Steele). The victim and suspect are intimate partners and hare a child together. The victim stated that he and the defendant got into an argument in a car in front of the location. The victim stated he exited the car so that his mother, Shemeka, could drive the defendant home. The victim stated the defendant exited the car and grabbed his hair while yelling at him. The victim stated the defendant also attempted to hit him but his mother, who overheard the commotion and saw the defendant attacking the victim, intervened. Walter and Anniqua also stated they saw the defendant attack the victim. The defendant stated that she and the victim had gotten into an argument and that it did tum physical, however, she stated the victim started it by assaulting her in the car. The [defendant] had a minor cut to her chest and a tom uniform shirt, which Shemeka, the victim, and the witnesses stated occurred when Shemeka intervened to stop the defendant from attacking the victim. The victim stated Shemeka did cause the cut, but claimed the victim caused the tom shirt. There were no witnesses who observed an assault occur in the vehicle. Based on the statements of multiple witnesses. officers determined that probable cause existed that the defendant committed an assault by provocative contact and that she was the primary aggressor. |
