18-year-old Jaymarion Brand jailed after sending police on high-speed chase

18-year-old Jaymarion Brand was jailed on January 4th after reports of individuals getting out of a silver car and pulling on car door handles in the area of Benay Road. Officers searched the area and observed an individual wearing all-black clothing, pulling on the handle of a parked car in a driveway on Riverbend Drive. The individual saw the marked police car and ran to a stationary silver Toyota in the center of Riverbend Drive, with the engine running and the lights cut off. Brand entered the passenger’s seat, and the vehicle turned its lights on and accelerated toward the police before turning away right before hitting them and getting off the road. A traffic stop was attempted, and the police decided not to pursue. Moments later, the vehicle was spotted speeding over 100mph on Briley Parkway before fleeing into an apartment complex on Elm Pike. The vehicle’s occupants ditched the car behind the complex and fled on foot. A citizen flagged down officers and pointed toward the building where Brand was located. He was detained, and a bag containing approximately 22 grams of marijuana was found on him. He admitted being in the vehicle but denied being the driver. Inside the vehicle, a well-used window punch was found along with a gun holster, distal scales, and an additional 6 grams of marijuana. Brand’s cell phone was also located inside the vehicle. He told police that two other people were in the car and repeated that he was not the driver. The vehicle owner was contacted, who advised that she did not know either of the defendants and never permitted them to drive her car. Jaymarion Brand was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment, possession of burglary tools, unauthorized use of vehicle, possession or casual exchange, drug paraphernalia, and three counts of evading arrest.
