DUI: Gelilla Lakew blows 0.206% BAC after hitting parked car in Camaro

25-year-old Gelilla Lakew drove her yellow Camaro into a parked vehicle at a Blairfield Drive residence late March 3rd. When detectives responded to the scene, they spoke with the owners of the parked car, who advised them that the driver fled after the collision. Officers located the Camaro in the middle of the road with heavy front-end damage and red paint transfer, matching the parked vehicle. Several witnesses told them that a black female wearing all black, later identified as Lakew, stumbled away from the car as she left. Detectives investigated and discovered the registered owner resided at a nearby Blairfield Drive address. Officers went to the address to conduct a knock-and-talk. Lakew’s mother answered the door and told officers that her daughter was driving the Camaro and that she left it in the middle of the road because it would not drive any further. When they went to speak with Gelilla, she was wearing all black like the description witnesses provided and told officers she was driving home from work but did not remember crashing. Officers noticed she was visibly intoxicated and asked for her to take sobriety tests, which she consented to and performed poorly. Lakew was explained implied consent and agreed to provide a breath sample, which resulted in 0.206 BAC%. Lakew was taken into custody for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
