Aaron Mitchell points gun at boyfriend’s head during argument after Christmas party

33-year-old Aaron Harris Mitchell had a domestic disturbance with his boyfriend, Cameron Ellis, on Woodale Lane in the early hours of December 23rd. Before the officers arrived, they were advised that Mitchell was intoxicated and leaving the residence in a blue SUV. Officers located the SUV at the intersection of Whites Creek Pike and Revels Drive. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with Mitchell, who was driving. Separate officers went to the residence to speak with Ellis, who advised them that he and Mitchell were at a Christmas party, left, and went to McDonald’s before going home. They were in the drive-thru when Ellis saw an employee he was friends with, causing Mitchell to get jealous. They verbally argued as they headed home; once home, Mitchell began throwing things around the house. As Ellis explained, officers observed a knocked-over couch, barstools, and other items on the ground. Then Ellis left the residence, but Mitchell followed him in his car, so they both drove around the block and pulled back into the driveway. They then began to argue again when Mitchell pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Ellis’s head.

Officers asked Mitchell about the incident, and he stated he pointed the gun at him because he was in fear. He told them Ellis had assaulted him earlier that evening. He also stated Ellis approached his vehicle when they both pulled into the driveway and kicked the window of his car, prompting him to pull his gun out in self-defense. Mitchell was visibly intoxicated, consented to sobriety tests, and performed poorly. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded a loaded handgun behind the passenger seat. Aaron Mitchell was taken into custody for aggravated assault, driving under the influence, and possessing a weapon while under the influence on December 23rd.
