Tonya Dawn Burgess, 38, will appear in Davidson County General Sessions Court on Tuesday to answer to her 11th charge for prostitution in Nashville. For her most recent arrest, a MNPD undercover detective solicited Burgess to engage in a “sexual act” for $27, and she agreed, according to the arrest affidavit. Of her numerous Nashville arrests, over 40 in total, perhaps her most notable was perhaps in 2014 when the arresting officer put her in the back of his police cruiser, started the drive to booking, and mid-way there, Tonya Burgess pulled out a crack pipe from her groin, and a lighter, and began smoking crack cocaine in the back of the cop car en route to booking downtown.
07/17/2017 in Davidson County, did intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly engage in prostitution. The probable cause is as follows:
Undercover detectives solicited the defendant to engage in a sexual act for $27 in US Currency. The defendant agreed to engage in the act.
and another of the 11 prostitution arrests:
…police observed the defendant (Tonya Burgess), who is a known prostitute, in an area known for prostitution. Police observed the defendant flag down a white Nissan Altima (TN xxxxxx) and the defendant entered the vehicle.Police observed the vehicle travel to two separate locations known for selling narcotics.Police followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Factory Street near Lester Avenue. Upon making contact with both occupants police confirmed through the warrants division the defendant had 3 outstanding warrants. The driver of the vehicle gave police consent to search the vehicle. During the search police recovered 0.1 grams of loose crack cocaine. The crack cocaine field tested positive for cocaine base. Neither party claimed ownership of the narcotics. Prior to transport the defendant was asked if she had anything illegal on her person and she stated “No.” The defendant was taken into custody without incident While en route to booking the defendant pulled out a crack pipe from her groin area and began smoking crack cocaine in it.
