Jermaine Shute (Better known as ‘Starlito’) appeared in a Nashville Court this morning to answer for charges of Aggravated Assault & Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, both charges stemming from an August shooting at Batter’d & Fried in East Nashville.

The DA’s office dropped the gun charge, but will move forward on the FELONY AGGRAVATED ASSAULT charge, and bound it over to the Grand Jury. Shute (Starlito) remains out on a $25,000 bond, awaiting a grand jury indictment.

Here’s the charge they are considering:

FELONY: Assault, Aggravated – Serious Bodily Injury- Int/Kn

On 08/01/2017 at 2026 hours, James Fletcher was shot at least once inside 1008 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37207 (Batter’d & Fried). During the initial contact with Fletcher, he reported to officers on scene that the shooting suspect was a local rapper by the name of “Starlito” (known to be Jermaine Shute). Via a photographic lineup, a witness at the location identified Shute as the suspect with absolute certainty. Surveillance footage collected from the business as well corroborates the account that Shute is the suspect. Shute does not have a valid hand-gun carry permit.

In a strange twist of events, his Victim also appeared in court today, on charges of Disorderly Conduct & Filing a False Report, as he initially lied to investigators about the incident, and was found to be the aggressor, leading to the shooting. His cases were also bound over to the grand jury to be included in his pending drug charges.

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
T.C.A. 39-17-418

On 10/12/14 I stopped the defendant for a head light violation and upon approaching the vehicle I could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. I then asked the defendant for his driver’s license and conducted a criminal history check on the defendant and discovered that he had multiple drug convictions. I then requested the defendant to get out of his vehicle based on the strong odor of marijuana emitting from his vehicle. After getting the defendant out of the vehicle I asked the defendant if he had any drugs on his person or in his vehicle. While outside the vehicle the defendant stated that he did not have any drugs on his person or inside the vehicle. The defendant gave officers consent to search his person and while searching the defendant’s person I could smell a very strong odor of marijuana emitting from his person, and discovered that he had a bag of marijuana (7.8 grams) hidden inside of his under shorts. Based on the discovery of the marijuana I placed the defendant into custody. Based on defendant having multiple drug convictions I charged the defendant with simple possession 2nd offense or greater and transported him to metro booking.
