Larico Nelson admits to shooting Kevin Stewart near IHOP, claims self-defense

The suspected gunman in Friday morning’s fatal shooting of Kevin Stewart near the Antioch IHOP has met with South Precinct detectives, surrendered his pistol, and reports that he shot Stewart in self-defense as Stewart was raising a gun toward him. The 23-year-old admitted shooter, Larico Nelson, who was legally in possession of a pistol, and two 22-year-old friends who were with him, gave full statements before leaving the South Precinct.  Their accounts of the events Friday morning will be shared with the District Attorney’s Office. SCOOP: It was 21 hours after Kevin Steward was shot and killed before MNPD got the correct suspects and their vehicle information out to the public. However, a witness to the murder that attempted CPR on the victim, told police the shots were fired from a black Audi shortly after it happened – and she says they ignored her, even called her a liar, as they put out the wrong information to the public, not correcting it for nearly 21 hours after the murder
