Man kicks in bathroom door, drags girlfriend out by hair, and chokes her, police say

36-year-old Rama Mengasha, is charged with aggravated assault/strangulation after police say he kicked in the bathroom door while his girlfriend was attempting to shower, drug her out by her hair, and held her in a chokehold.

In early November, officers responded to a domestic violence call and were dispatched to Arbor Crest Blvd, where the victim, stated that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, Rama Mengasha. Tiffany said that she and Rama had gotten into an argument about their dating relationship.

Tiffany stated she went to the bathroom to take a shower but was interrupted when Rama kicked the door open, grabbed her by the hair, and drug her out of the bathroom by her hair. Per the report, while Rama was behind Tiffany he placed her in a chokehold with his right arm for approximately 10-15 seconds, during which time the victim had trouble breathing along with soreness afterward. Tiffany did have redness and scratches to her neck region and a scratch on her nose.

Tiffany alleged that after being strangled Rama said that he would punch and kill her. Tiffany stated that a witness broke up the altercation. The witness corroborated Tiffany’s narrative and stated that he pulled Rama off of her once Rama had dragged Tiffany into the dining room. While doing so the witness said that he injured Rama’s finger but did not know he did at the time. The witness was not assaulted by Rama and sustained no injuries. Tiffany was offered counseling, an order of protection, and medical attention. She received medical attention and spoke to a counselor on the phone.

Rama Mengasha was charged with aggravated assault with strangulation and posted a $7500.00 bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on December 23rd, but failed to do so, and has now forfeited his bod, and is wanted.
