41-year-old Cara Schmitz was charged with theft of property after she was paid $225 to clean a kitchen hood exhaust for Phillyman Cheesesteak, failed to complete that task, and then refused to refund their money after promising she would.
On June 11th, Cara Schmitz, the owner of Hot Mess Inc. located out of Spring Hill, wrote up an invoice for work conducted at Phillyman Cheesesteak located at 227 4th Avenue North. Hot Mess was hired to clean the hood exhaust inside of the kitchen and charged Phillyman $225 for this task.
The invoice was signed by both parties and Phillyman paid with an E-check. Following these events, Phillyman closed for renovations and a second opinion was given on whether the hoods had been cleaned or not and they agreed they had not been cleaned. The business contacted Cara Schmitz, who stated they would get their money back since the task had not been completed, but they never did.
On October 5th, Cara Schmitz was arrested and charged with theft of property. She was released on a $1,000 bond.
