64-year-old Sally Mattis, of Memphis, was charged with DUI just before 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Harpeth River State Park in Nashville when police found her with 9 open and empty bottles of Barefoot Pinot Grigio in her vehicle, though she claims she only recently drank two. While talking with officers, she urinated all over herself mid-conversation and refused all testing.

Harpeth River State Park Manager Gary Patterson noticed two vehicles acting abnormally on Tuesday afternoon when they both pulled into the Hidden Lake parking lot with one honking a horn. One of the drivers approached the Park Ranger and alerted him that the other driver had been swerving and had just driven into and out of a ditch. MNPD was called to the scene, as a DUI was suspected.

Officers arrived and found Sally Mattis in the driver’s seat of her vehicle with slurred speech and barely able to complete a sentence. She was asked to step out of the vehicle and was very unsteady on her feet. Once on her feet, and while in mid-conversation, she urinated on herself while speaking with officers. She admitted to consuming 2 “mini-bottles” of wine, each being 187ml n size (typically sold in 4-packs). In plain view, officers could see 9 open and empty bottles in total inside the vehicle.

Sally Mattis refused all field sobriety and blood/breath testing. She was transported to booking and charged with driving under the influence and violation of the implied consent law. She is free on pre-trial release.
