24-year-old Velen Lemus, who is a Nasvhille area content creator for various platforms, including her ‘Funsize Velen’ persona, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail earlier this month, charged with DUI – driving under the influence. Police say she was speeding and driving erratically, and eventually ran a red light in Goodlettsville, where a traffic stop was conducted. She told police she was on her way home to Ashland City, but wasn’t sure where she was at, or a correct way to get to her destination. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and blew a 0.163 BAC on the breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit in Tennessee. Officers also found she had a prior DUI in 2019 in Rutherford County and is required to have an alcohol interlock device on her vehicle, which she did not have. She was charged with DUI 2nd offense and is free on pre-trial release.
|ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT:|
|On December 13, 2021, I was about to pull out of the parking lot of 411 S Main St. I observed a red Nissan Altima traveling southbound on S Main at a very high rate of speed. I pulled out behind the vehicle and attempted to catch up to it. I observed the vehicle fail to maintain its lane and run the red light at S Main St and Long Hollow Pike.|
I observed the vehicle swerving between lanes while continuing at a high rate of speed on N Main St. I caught up to the vehicle around 667 N Main St and initiated a traffic stop. I made a passenger’s side approach and made contact with the driver, Velen Lemus. Due to the way Lemus was driving, I asked her to step out of the vehicle.
Lemus stated that she was just trying to go home in Ashland City. I asked her how she was going to get to Ashland City. She stated that she was going to go on 24 or 40. Lemus was unable to tell me where she was. I smelled the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from her person. I asked Lemus to perform field sobriety tests. During HGN I observed all six clues along with vertical nystagmus. Lemus’s eyes were watery and bloodshot. Lemus made an improper turn and took an improper number of steps on the walk and turn.
Lemus was taken into custody for DUI. I read Lemus Implied Consent and Lemus consented to a breath test. I transported her to the Police Department in order to conduct the breath test. The result of the test was 0.163. I found that Lemus had a prior DUI conviction out of Rutherford County after being arrested on 4/25/2019. Lemus’s license was also revoked with an alcohol interlock restriction. Lemus did not have an ignition interlock in the vehicle. GPD Complaint # 21-34821.
