Metro police say 31-year-old John Breckenridge was having a “panic attack” when they arrived at a Poplar Creek Road address, where he had shot Ronald Pratt in what a witness describes as an argument and scuffle over Breckenridge’s wife. An arrest warrant alleges that Breckenridge knocked on the front door of the home and Pratt’s mother opened the door. When Ronald Pratt went outside, an argument and scuffle ensued in the front yard, and witnesses heard a gunshot, followed by Ronald Pratt coming back inside and falling on the floor, freshly shot in the abdomen.
Breckenridge’s father was standing by outside the residence in a pickup truck, but Breckenridge didn’t flee as he suffered an injury to his ear and was having a panic attack, which resulted in him also being transported to the hospital. Breckenridge refused to be interviewed and remains jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

| On 12/03/2021 at approximately 1900 hrs I responded to 8130 Poplar Creek Rd, Nashville, TN 37221 for a person who had been shot. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Vanderbilt hospital and as of this affidavit is in critical but stable condition. Witness Yvonne Pratt stated that someone (defendant) knocked on the door at her residence located at 8130 Poplar Creek Rd and she answered the door. Yvonne did not know the person and her son (victim) came and went outside. Yvonne stood at the door and on the inside and heard the victim and defendant arguing. The argument escalated and the two began fighting. They both ended up on the ground in the front yard and Yvonne heard a gunshot. The victim got up and went inside the residence and fell on the floor. Witness Ryan Pratt, the victim’s brother stated that he heard an argument outside the front door and while standing at the door on the inside he heard the victim and defendant arguing. The argument was something about the defendant’s wife. The argument escalated and the two went to the ground and were fighting. Ryan then heard a “pop”. The victim then came inside the door and said he was shot. A few seconds later another male in a pickup truck pulled in front of the house which was later determined to be the defendant’s father. The defendant remained at the scene and was transported to Centennial hospital with an injury to the back of his left ear and was having a panic attack. I went to the hospital to interview the defendant and he invoked his Miranda Rights and refused to speak with me. One cartridge casing and the handgun used by the defendant were recovered from the scene. |
