Kenneth Jeffrey Neverman was arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault / strangulation on Friday night, when MNPD officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Hermitage Hotel, where the average room rate for the night was $549. It turned out the fight started because Ken Neverman’s girlfriend accused him of tipping bartenders too much throughout the night, and in the end he placed both hands around her neck, and began to strangle her, according to court documents filed overnight. Neverman was visiting Nashville from Galena, OH, according to his bond paperwork, and is the President of Neverman Construction (ServiceMaster) in Ohio.
Per the MNPD Affidavit:
THE VICTIM ADVISED THAT A VERBAL ALTERCATION STARTED AT AN UNKNOWN BAR IN DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE REGARDING THE VICTIM ALLEGING THAT THE DEFENDANT WAS TIPPING LOCAL BARTENDERS TOO MUCH MONEY. THE VICTIM ADVISED THAT THE VERBAL ARGUMENT CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE EVENING UNTIL THEY RETURNED BACK TO THEIR HOTEL ROOM AT THE HERMITAGE HOTEL.
THE VICTIM ADVISED THAT, ONCE INSIDE OF THEIR HOTEL ROOM, THE ARGUMENT ESCALATED TO THE POINT THAT THE DEFENDANT PLACED BOTH HANDS AROUND THE VICTIM’S NECK AND BEGAN STRANGLING HER. THE VICTIM ADVISED THAT, ALTHOUGH SHE NEVER LOST CONSCIOUSNESS, SHE COULD NOT BREATH AND FELT AS IF SHE WAS CLOSE TO LOSING CONSCIOUSNESS. FURTHERMORE, THE VICTIM ADVISED THAT SHE WAS STRUCK ON THE LEFT SIDE OF HER FACE BY THE DEFENDANT’S HANDS AT SOME POINT.
THE VICTIM WAS UNSURE OF HOW LONG SHE WAS STRANGLED FOR, BUT ADVISED THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO SCRATCH AT THE DEFENDANT’S NECK AND FACE TO THE POINT THAT HE LET GO OF HER AND LEFT THE HOTEL ROOM TEMPORARILY.
OFFICERS EXAMINED THE VICTIM AND OBSERVED SWELLING TO THE LEFT SIDE OF HER FACE NEAR HER CHEEK AND EYE. OFFICERS ALSO OBSERVED MINOR REDNESS TO THE VICTIM’S NECK. FURTHERMORE, THE OFFICERS OBSERVED PETECHIAE, OR SPOTS OF BLOOD, IN THE VICTIM’S LEFT EYE. BASED ON OFFICER’S TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE, OFFICERS KNEW PETECHIAE TO BE A SYMPTOM OF STRANGULATION.
OFFICERS MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEFENDANT, WHO WOULD ONLY STATE THAT HIS INJURIES WERE CAUSED BY FALLING. OFFICERS EXAMINED THE DEFENDANT AND OBSERVED SCRATCHES ALONG MULTIPLE AREAS OF HIS NECK AND FACE, CONSISTENT WITH DEFENSIVE WOUNDS AND CORROBORATING THE VICTIM’S ACCOUNT OF THE INCIDENT.
BASED ON THE VICTIM’S INJURY AND HER ACCOUNT OF THE INCIDENT, OFFICERS DETERMINED THE DEFENDANT TO BE THE PRIMARY AGGRESSOR IN AN ASSAULT INVOLVING A DOMESTIC RELATIONSHIP.
Neverman’s post a $7500 bond via Smiley’s, and will have a court date on 02/13/18 for his felony charge.
