One week after announcing his departure from the Black Veil Brides, 40-year-old Ashley Purdy was found by Metro Nashville Police unresponsive behind the wheel of his vehicle, with the engine running. He was eventually awakened by the officers, who placed him in the rear of their patrol vehicle where he “urinated all over the back seat of the patrol vehicle” on the way to the hospital, and threatened officers when they discovered it, per an arrest report.
Metro Nashville Police encountered the 40-year-old glam metal bassist at approximately 3:30 a.m. on November 23rd, on Elliston Street near Robinson Road, in Old Hickory. Purdy was unresponsive, sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with the engine running. Officers were initially unable to awaken Purdy, but after several minutes of knocking on windows and calling out to him, he woke up, put the car in drive, and attempted to drive away. When he realized he was unable to maneuver out of the current situation, he rolled down his window to speak to officers.
Police say he was slow to respond to questions, did not know where he was, or what day or year it was. He told officers it was April of 2023 when further questioned. He continued to fall asleep multiple times during questioning. When asked if he had had any alcohol, he stated “a few, but that’s not relevant”, and continued with the “that’s no relevant, either” line of answers when asked if he had taken any narcotics.
He reportedly had glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol about his person, and police note a records search revealed multiple prior DUI convictions in the state of California. A search warrant was granted for his blood, and police transported him to the hospital after he refused any medical treatment. Once at the hospital police say they discovered he had urinated all over the back seat of the patrol vehicle, and threatened officers when they discovered the wet mess. After his blood was drawn he was transported to booking, where he was charged with DUI – driving under the influence. He is free on pre-trial release and scheduled to appear in court on January 17, 2020.
NOTE: The Sheriff’s Office booking desk confirms the birth date of 01/28/1979 for Ashley Purdy (born Andrew James Purdy), despite many online profiles having his birthdate incorrect, listing him as a few years younger than his actual age.
