26-year-old Scott Jones was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail wearing his fall-colored turtleneck in the early hours of Tuesday morning after police initially observed him driving a vehicle with tags that expired in 2020. During the traffic stop Officer Womack determined he was intoxicated, and though he initially claimed only “one drink”, he later admitted to having 2-3 glasses of wine and smoking marijuana before driving. Jones is charged with DUI, and free on pre-trial release.

| The defendant was driving a silver Toyota 4Runner on West End Avenue. The tags expired in June of 2020. I activated my blue lights and siren in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop. The defendant continued onto Orleans Avenue and then onto Acklen Drive. He finally pulled over. I approached the vehicle and immediately noticed that he smelled of an alcoholic beverage, his speech was slurred, and his eyes were watery. His pupils were also dilated. He initially admitted to drinking one drink, but later, after Miranda, he admitted to drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine and smoking marijuana. The defendant exited the vehicle and I administered three standardized field sobriety tests. He showed multiple signs of impairment on all three. I placed him under arrest for DUI and read him the Implied Consent Law. He refused a breath test. I drafted a search warrant and it was approved by a Night Court Commissioner. The defendant was then transported to General Hospital where a blood sample was obtained. It was sent to the MNPD Crime Lab for analysis. |
