Metro Nashville Police have charged Joseph ‘Joey’ Windler, the 29-year-old owner of Rukus Cycling Nashville, with vandalism after they cuffed him in the rear of a patrol car during a DUI arrest, and they say he urinated on the seat, traffic cones, and plexiglass divider of the cage. The officer notes it’s not his normal job duty to clean urine and it takes away from his duty as a Patrol Sergeant, thereby costing the city money, and constituting vandalism as there is a monetary loss.

29-year-old Joseph (Joey) L. Windler was involved in a crash at 12th Avenue and Broadway on January 16th, to which Metro Nashville Police responded, and notified Patrol Sergeant Paul Stein. Stein took Windler, who was a driver in the crash, was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence. Windler was cuffed and placed into the rear of the patrol car.

Sgt. Stein noticed that while in the back of the car, Windler had urinated on himself, the back seat, traffic cones, and the plexiglass divider of the cage. Stein states that due to the actions of Windler he was then required to clean and sanitize the rear of the patrol car before checking back into service. Stein justifies the vandalism charge by stating the actions will cause a monetary loss to either himself by having to pay to have the back of his patrol car cleaned and sanitized, or to Metro by having to pay him to clean and sanitize the car, in lieu of his regular duties as a Patrol Sergeant.
