Gerald McClure tells police he “won’t let some foreigners get in his face & tell him what to do”

32-year-old Gerald McClure and his sister, Latina McClure, were escorted out of Rippy’s Bar around 7 p.m. on June 9th. When officers arrived, they observed Gerald “actively engaging in fighting behavior.” As officers spoke with Gerald, they smelled the unmistakable odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He was unsteady on his feet, had red, bloodshot, watery eyes, and was not making any sense. As officers tried to figure out what was going on, Gerald became irate and began yelling racial slurs at them and other patrons on Broadway. Gerald resisted as officers attempted to handcuff him.

Security advised that they asked Gerald to leave the bar due to his level of intoxication. He began to leave but changed his mind and began yelling at them. While being transported to booking, Gerald stated he would not let some “foreigners” get in his face and tell him what to do because he is a “native Tennessean and doesn’t have to listen to non-natives.” Mr. McClure was taken into custody for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.
