26-year-old Mira Williams tried to steal Roman Hajnas’s iPhone 13 at his Airbnb on McGavock Street in the early hours of April 5th. The police responded to a call regarding an assault near 16th Avenue and Hayes Street. They located Hajnas, who stated he met Williams while socializing with his friend, Jaroslaw Luczkiewicz, and they decided to continue their conversation at his Airbnb. Hajnas said she requested to use his phone to call someone, so he unlocked it. Williams grabbed it from his hand, and as he did this, she attempted to run away. He said he started running after Williams and caught up to her near Hayes Street, where he pushed her to the ground and held her down with Luczkiewicz until the police arrived. Hajnas said that he sustained injuries from the fall but recovered his iPhone. Officers spoke with Luczkiewicz, who corroborated Hajnas’s statements, stating she snatched his phone from him and fled. He admitted to assisting in her detainment. Williams was transported to the hospital due to injuries from the incident, so officers met with her. Williams told them she left the Airbnb due to Hajnas’s unwanted sexual advances. She added that he became irate when she walked away and started following her. Williams then tried to sprint, but Hajnas caught her and pushed her to the ground, causing external injuries. She alleged that Hajnas and Luczkiewicz held her body against the ground and put her in a “chokehold” until bystanders separated them. Williams denied taking any phone from his possession. Officers determined there was probable cause for the theft of the iPhone, so Williams was then taken into custody for theft.
